Several norovirus cases have been confirmed in long-term care facilities across Nebraska.

About a dozen cases of norovirus have been discovered since the beginning of the year.

Officials with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services say that the gastrointestinal illness can be transmitted by contact with contaminated surfaces and objects or by airborne droplets.

People with norovirus are advised to drink plenty of fluids, and all contaminated surfaces and clothing should be disinfected.
