The City of Omaha on Friday morning honored the man who ran the College World Series for the NCAA for more than 25 years.

Dennis Poppe helped secure a long-term agreement to keep the College World Series in Omaha through 2035.

Mayor Jean Stothert and four previous mayors who worked with Poppe were on hand as the Dennis Poppe Plaza was dedciated outside TD Ameritrade Park near 13th and Mike Fahey.

It includes an eight foot brushed aluminum monument.  Poppe lives in Indianapolis, but says he considers Omaha his "second home."

Poppe is retiring in January after 39 years with the NCAA. He ran the College World Series from 1987 to 2013.
