Joe Nichols is one of the more traditional guys in country music these days and over the weekend when he played the Craven Country Jamboree he shared his thoughts about the new trend of infusing rap sounds into country music. Speaking in his usual slow drawl, Joe told the crowd, “It’s hard for me these days. This is as fast as I talk. This is me revved up in an argument. There are guys in country music rapping now. I don’t know how you feel about that. I don’t know how I feel about that. I just can’t compete with that. “

Joe then told the crowd that rather than putting some rap in his country, he’d like to put some country into a rap song, and that’s when he launched into his own version of Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby’s Got Back.” According to some people who were at the show, it was actually a pretty good, if not entertaining, version of the song.
