With two morning gigs—AM drive at iHeartMedia CHR KIIS-FM Los Angeles (102.7) and as new cohost of ABC-TV’s “Live with Kelly and Ryan”—Ryan Seacrest still has evenings free. With the rumored reboot of “American Idol” now appearing to be a reality, the question is, will he or won’t he return to host? The answer: not likely.
As the L.A.-based Seacrest relocates to New York full-time for the “Live” gig, he’ll also helm KIIS-FM and his syndicated “On Air” midday show from the East Coast. Then on weekends, he returns to the West Coast to host Premiere Networks’ syndicated “American Top 40” program. And then there’s his executive producer role at E!, and hosting “Live From the Red Carpet” for the network leading into the Grammys, Oscars and Golden Globes programs.
Seacrest recalled on the “Kelly and Ryan” show that at the end of a 15-season run on “American Idol,” which launched in 2002, “I said, ‘Goodbye for now,’ hoping somewhere it would come back.” Ripa responded, “Your nights are free and you don’t have that much to do. You can do this!”
But apparently even the indefatigable Seacrest has his limits. Broadcasting & Cable reports that Seacrest says he’s unlikely to again host the show. On Monday’s “Live,” Ripa and Seacrest discussed the “Idol” gig, and after some teasing and cajoling, Seacrest said, “I don’t know if I can. Do you know the preparation I have to do for this show every night?” The Hollywood Reporter says there have been no discussions yet between ABC and Seacrest.
