It started last week when the Lincoln department tweeted the Bellevue department and issued a dance-off throw down.
A video that Lincoln posted to Twitter shows Officer Courtney Leaver in sunglasses delivering some great moves as her long pony tail bounces.
The video ends with words on the screen: Bring it Bellevue PD!
Bellevue flipped on its sirens and responded to the call Monday night, posting a video showing a group of officers breaking it down in front of police headquarters. The department’s community relations coordinator and the daughter of an officer are also featured in the 35-second clip.
Both the Bellevue and Lincoln departments say the goal of the videos is to show the public that police officers are just regular people. The public can be wary of officers, so if the videos make them seem more approachable that’s a good thing.
"We want people to see us as humans, too," said Roger Cox, community relations and crime prevention coordinator for the Bellevue department. "(We’re) not afraid to go out and embarrass ourselves for the viewing pleasure of the public."
Officer Angela Sands, spokeswoman for the Lincoln department, said Bellevue nailed it.
