Officials: Raw sewage reaches Zorinsky Lake
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) -- Omaha Public Works officials warned residents Sunday to stay away from Zorinsky Lake after raw sewage seeped into its waters.
They say an “unknown quantity” of untreated sewage escaped the Zorinsky Sewage Lift Station due to a power outage. The sewage flowed overland and into the lake.
The Omaha Public Works Department is advising to avoid body contact with the waters of Zorinsky Lake. In addition, a portion of the West Loop Trail has been closed to the public until cleanup of the site has been completed.
Power has been restored to the sewage lift station, ending the overflow. This advisory remains in effect until further notice, department officials said.
