Midland Football Remain in Locker Room During Homecoming Anthem

(FREMONT TRIBUNE) During this past week’s homecoming game against the University of Jamestown, members of the Midland University football team stayed in the locker room during the National Anthem, in what Athletic Director Dave Gillespie described as a “teaching and learning moment.”

According to a statement from Gillespie, the decision was not meant to be interpreted as a protest, akin to the protests by professional and college football teams across the country, aiming to draw attention to issues of racial and social injustice, and often taking the form of kneeling during the National Anthem.Full story HERE
