Snow has piled up so high in South Lake Tahoe that even sitting in a parked car can be dangerous.
During a recent storm, a snowplow operator inadvertently hit a completely buried car that was illegally parked on a city easement. The impact popped open the trunk of the vehicle, city spokesman Chris Fiore said.
As workers dug around the car to prepare it for towing, they were startled to see a hand press against one of the windows. It belonged to a 48-year-old woman who had been inside for four or five hours. She was unharmed, but might have died had she not been freed from the car, Fiore said.
