Kacey Musgraves Says Her 'Post-Divorce' Album Is Going To Burst The Bubble

Kacey Musgraves' follow-up to Golden Hour will hear the country titan in a new light.

As per her new cover story with Crack magazine, Musgraves, 32, is ready to burst the bubble when it comes to what fans know of her from her award-winning 2018 set. "My last album is what people know me for," she admitted to the outlet. "They see me as this starry-eyed, rose-colored glasses kinda girl; the Golden Hour girl. Well, here I come with a post-divorce album, bursting the f*kiing bubble."

Musgraves and her husband of three years Ruston Kelly filed for divorce in July 2020. It appears the as-yet-announced project will consist of 15 songs, which will be split evenly into three acts. The fifth studio album, which was also inspired by psychedelics, will drop later this year via Interscope Records and UMG Nashville.

In a separate press outing, the singer teased new material by singing snippets of two songs: "Camera Roll" and "If I Was an Angel." "Man ... it f*cks me up bad. Like it still does," she said of "Camera Roll" to host Dr. Maya Shankar in a recent episode of the A Slight Change of Plans podcast. "After the divorce and everything, you have all these photos of your life, your old life, in your phone and you don't know what to do with them. You're like, 'Do I delete this? This person didn't die.' And these are still my memories, but I don't want to see him every day. Well, you get to scrolling on your phone, like one late night, and you just wander down this dark alley with all these wonderful memories at one point and then you're just f*cking stabbed in the heart!"
