Miranda Lambert knew that she wouldn’t have released her latest ballad if Leon Bridges hadn’t been interested in singing it with her. The country trailblazer teamed up with a fellow Texan to debut “If You Were Mine,” which released on Tuesday morning (June 6).

Lambert reflected in an Instagram caption that she wrote the duet with songwriters Jesse Frasure (also known as telemitry) and Ashley Monroe, with Bridges in mind. She said of Jon Randall-produced duet: “If (Bridges) hadn’t wanted to cut it, I wouldn’t have released it. So glad he said yes and that it’s here.”

“I’d make sure your stars are shining/ Sure as the Frio’s winding/ I’d bottle you up like lightning/ I’d rope the moon for you/ A million times/ That’s what I’d do/ If you were mine”

The Palomino hitmaker revealed Bridges, a fellow Texan, as her duet partner last week after teasing a mystery collaborator on her social media channels. Lambert had previously posted photos from inside a recording studio along with a clip from a recent interview, where she’d said, “I’ve got a few collabs up my sleeve that I’m very excited about.” The duet with Bridges also comes after she confirmed that she “loved writing a tune” with Jelly Roll, and shared with Dierks Bentley that they “have a few new songs” as they revealed a teaser of a song set to appear in the CBS drama Fire Country.
