🎶 What If Johnny Cash Sang “Country Roads”? 🤯
Yep, that almost happened. The writers behind Take Me Home, Country Roads originally had Johnny Cash in mind. Imagine that deep voice crooning about West Virginia! But it ended up with John Denver, who even snagged a songwriting credit. Wild, right?
Turns out, a bunch of your favorite country hits were this close to sounding totally different:
- Luke Combs’ “Where the Wild Things Are” was first pitched to Eric Church. He passed. Big miss? Maybe.
- “Drink a Beer” by Luke Bryan was written by Chris Stapleton and offered to Dierks Bentley first. He said no. Oof.
- Jason Aldean’s “Big Green Tractor” could’ve been Jake Owen’s. But he didn’t feel authentic singing about tractors. His brother reminded him, “Johnny Cash didn’t really shoot a man in Reno.” 😂
- Miranda Lambert’s “The House That Built Me” was meant for Blake Shelton. But he saw how much it meant to Miranda and gave it to her. 💔❤️
- Zac Brown Band’s “Chicken Fried” was almost Alan Jackson’s. But he’d just released a song about fried chicken and didn’t want to double dip. 🍗
Crazy how close these songs came to having totally different vibes. Wanna see the full list? Head over to Whiskey Riff and check it out!
