When Grace Benway and Thomas Decourcey started planning their wedding, they pictured Colorado skies and mountain views. But life had other plans—and they didn’t hesitate to pivot.
Grace’s dad, Dan, has been battling pancreatic cancer for two years. Now in Stage 4, traveling to the wedding wasn’t an option. So Grace and Thomas did something beautiful: they brought the wedding to him.
With just 24 hours to pull it off, the couple said “I do” at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Nurses helped make it happen, and the hospital turned into a wedding venue overnight.
Dan rolled down the aisle in a wheelchair wearing a sharp gray suit, red tie, and sunglasses. He held Grace’s hand, hugged her tight, and beamed with pride. “He’s been fighting so much,” Grace said. “He’s incredible.”
Dan was all smiles, calling Thomas “a great man” and saying he couldn’t ask for anyone better for his daughter. The whole moment was raw, real, and unforgettable.
Sometimes love means changing everything—just to make sure the people who matter most are there.
