Carrie Underwood delivered a fierce performance of her 2018 anthem, “The Champion,” in a promo that aired during Super Bowl LX on Sunday (February 8).
“One team will mark their name in HISTORY,” NBC captioned the promo that aired ahead of the second half and was later shared on Instagram. The clip included glimpses of Underwood, wearing a shimmering gown with a dramatic split that nearly reaches her hip, performing “The Champion.” She released the song, featuring Ludacris, on her 13-track studio album, Cry Pretty. The Super Bowl promo also showed adrenaline-rushing looks of the players in action at the start of the third quarter.
Ultimately, the Seattle Seahawks were crowned the champions in a 29-13 victory against the New England Patriots.
Underwood was “waiting all day for Sunday night” for her 13th consecutive season in 2025-26. She performed the Sunday Night Football theme at Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she played “the longest-running Las Vegas residency [REFLECTION] of any solo female country artist,” spanning from December 2021 to April 2025. Underwood reportedly makes $1 million every week for the Sunday Night Football opening, totaling $18 million spanning the 18-week season. She said in a statement at the beginning of the season that creative director Tripp Dixon and his team “continue to raise the bar, bringing the high energy and stunning visuals that the Sunday Night Football audience has come to expect year after year.” Watch the Super Bowl promo below.
